November of 2024 marks the third year anniversary of my workshop. This year is especially important because it is the first one where I’ve managed to make it and support myself entirely as a FULL-TIME independent cymbalsmith, an incredible accomplishment of which I feel proud. Additionally, during this month, I've achieved another worthy milestone. I’ve produced the 100th serialized cymbal within a year’s work for the first time: QC24100. I plan to have finalized and published around 120 cymbals before the 31st of December, which means that throughout this year I would have made 1 cymbal every 3 days in average. If you compare this to previous years’ production rates, the growth that I’ve experienced in 2024 is more than significant, and in my opinion, worthy of celebration. So, for both of these reasons, is why I decided to make the 100th cymbal this year, the first ever Special Edition Anniversary Ride, and, start an anniversary program that will hopefully last and grow for as long as I am able to keep on making cymbals.

This year’s SE Anniversary Ride is a 24” highly complex ride. It has gone through a process of shaping, lathing, resting, fine tuning, patina application, and on top of that, another full session of over-hammering to finalize the instrument, which is something that I seldom do. It has a cluster-hammered bell which adds to the beautiful bloom of complexity around the high-ed frequency bands. The patina applied is the same kind that you would find on Heritage Rides: a true patina, dull caramel/amber in color, resembling as best I can the patinas observed in vintage cymbals. It’s profile is deep, falling within the category of “umbrella-shaped” rides. Though, the vertex of its curve lays closer to the stick sweet spot, which makes it look less umbrella than it really is while giving it more sonic clarity. It is not as dark as you would expect a 24” to be. Its wash resembles much more a mountain blizzard than it does a thunderous roar, and its articulation cuts through the hail like a spear. I consider this to be a beautiful ride with a unique and rare character. But, no matter how many bubbly words I use, truth is, they will never compare to what your ears can hear, or your eyes may see. So, the video sample and the photo gallery below should be able to give you all the information you might need for a committed decision.
